I respect your opinion.... but as a person in the real world and a person who likes to also have a quiet life, I understand the POV of Sei. Yes, it's nice to bask in the compliments and respect of others and it gives you confidence, but please take in mind that not all people are like that, other people just wants to live a quiet life and being popular and treated differently can change that. Maybe you're the kind of person that likes the attention, respect and compliments ( no offense ) but for me and other people who don't like that, we don't want to be treated differently just because we did something good and the people sees us as kind or like a saint, because sometimes it's hard because it can attract all kind of emotions and possible hate and annoyance from other people. Before being a saint, Sei is a person and every one of us has their own kind of opinions and view of things. Attention, respects, compliments and other people looking up to you can be really tiring and it can have a lot of pressure. But I respect your opinion and I hope you respect mine.
The problem is what is going to happen after the worshipping. Everyone (or at least the vast majority), will want to use her for their own benefits (and in fact it happenend in the novel with being pushy about arranged marriage, travel for purely political reasons without her actually being needed and so on...). Her friends are softening the blow but if they did not she would definitly be exploited worse than she already is.
Just like the others said, I respect your opinion and just like the others I sorta understand Sei's point of view.
After all she's not a child and it was never mentioned in the novel and manga that she was bullied. Sei's a working adult woman that spent her days working hard and she works in JAPAN. She often mentioned she didn't have time back then, barely have sleep and have black eyes everyday she woke up.
So imagine being a workaholic woman, that barely have time to sleep ( wake up at 4.am to go to work and true return home at 12-00:00 am), you suddenly get transported into another world= YOU ARE FREE FROM THE TERRIBLE WORK HOURS.
What's the first thing you think about other than going home?
Sleep. Find a way to sustain yourself doing what you like. She is given a chance to pursue another type of work and has other characters monitor her so she's not pushed to a situation where she HAS to work super hard to live. This she has more time for herself and her passion.
From my understanding of Sei's character she's not an attention seeker person, or she wants to be friend and liked by everyone.
She doesn't have confident issues either. She just view the Saint job as something troublesome. And just like she expected many people are approaching her a load of work is handed to her.
It's not even a matter of being humble either is the awareness of what happened if she came out saying the truth.
After all, the King or Head mage once said that they didn't have a saint for decades and that theres a growing miasma all around the kingdom. A kingdom is not just the capital it's also means nation with small or big villages.
Thus and just like how she thought, Sei was asked to go around the Kingdom defeating monsters, purifying and giving blessing, (attending parties doing cerimonies l) which is equal to her being unable to do what she likes: :cooking, potion making.
She already saw all those work coming the moment she saw she has [Saint] in her status. Just like the others saids it attention and compliment is not always great they can be oppressing.
Lastly this one is my personal opinion but I like the featuring of the concept of saint here: someone that is not a slave of peopel, someone that genuinely have the instinct to help others, someone that doesn't help others because someone ask them.
Saintification is a concept of Christian religion and most commonly those people become saints after they die, to avoid fame and followers devotion get in their heads or they profit from the status of saint while they're alive. And irl, saints are servant of god they don't heal or do miracles for themselves but for others. The way this serie pictured mildly respected that basic thing about the concept of Saint: humble, not an attention seeker, something that I liked.
And its actually this kind of saint (Sei), is very rare in light novels and manga. It's more common finding self aware, egocentric, corrupted defiction of Saint in novels.
Some Saint in novels are even wh*re, tyrannical, insane, or eccentric.....
Ahh.. I might get a lot of hate from my opinion.. But still, I just want to say sometimes I cannot stand a very humble and very reserved MC. I was like, MC-sama.. why troubled by people treating you with upmost respect? it wasn't like they literally came forward and harassed mc like sasaeng fans.
It seems to me, mc got respect from everyone and get vip treatment. Do mc rather people treat her like shit and nobody after all she had done? I know mc want it to be no big deal but it is big deal, mc came from other world, literally save lives, got op magic abilities.. is it mc rather people did not gives you any credit at all? I wonder if in real world, mc is the bullied type of office girl who willing to finished all the work stuff only for her supervisor taking the credit. I wish mc is a little bit more confident.. don't change who you are but just accept their respect and move on.. while she at it, indulge in the vip treatment.. she won't be getting that in real world after all. :/
P/s: I done ranting~ If people want to scold me please go ahead~ everyone entitled to have their own opinion after all~~
