In korea they often refer to older men in a more familiar way than they actually are, like calling a random old lady grandma, or how in korea they often call men that are older than themselves "hyung" or older brother, in this case that would be uncle. It's out of respect, I suppose?

adding onto that, everyone in china calls people older than them male - uncle, female - auntie, random old man - grandpa, etc.
Is it? I had no idea! Gosh I need to pay more attention to things. I just figured it was Korean, considering the starting setting. Regardless though, the way they speak about elders and what not is almost unanimous throughout Asia.
