Iida is going to play a major part later on. This was foreshadowed in the end of Chapter 15 (Hint: pay attention to the list of names he was reading). He will also be the one to help Ranzo and Ikuro after the fire.
Oh and.......Ranzo is also revealed to be the result of incest between his father and aunt (who was good friends with Ikuro's mother). (⊙…⊙ )
