I just realized. That the excuse that they gave (we thought you were dead that's why we left you there for 5 years) wasn't real. That was a lie. They had to have known. The emperor knew. He was in contact with the red fox guy. Their guardian. How could he not have known? Their guardian wouldn't have been there if they weren't alive (duh.)??????? What???????
