you're good haha.
about the bara point, not all men as ultra masc either. men that don't look as masc exist too so the ones drawn in most yaois aren't totally inaccurate (though a lot of artists tend to give them too many effeminate features, which is really odd).
and yeah i agree, i don't look at yaoi/yuri as a some kind of poltical activism agenda. it depends on what you're reading however. not every yaoi/yuri is just pwp, there are some great stories in some that just so happen to include sex scenes, but i wouldn't look at those as a form of rep either tbh.
I agree that not all men are hyper masculine. But the guys in yaoi don't even have any body hair it's like they've been waxed clean. I guess it's the same as the guys in bara except the ones in yaoi are hyperfeminine. That might one of the reasons why both the readers and authors are made of mostly women and some guys here and there.
There are some very good stories that just have happen to have some sex scenes. While with other yaoi/yuri it's the other way around great porn but lousy plot.I don't think it's good idea to put any story or character under as a good example of "represenatation". Since it's such a narrow box to fit into. The character can't have too many flaws let alone do anything bad. Nothing bad must ever happen to them and they must always have a happy ending with their significant other. Its nothing but a burden to have to live up to the expectation of what counts as "good representation." It's tiring gay people just want to read a good story with a good plot or maybe just cause it has good sex scenes.
Sorry I can't leave a response on the other thread. So I'll just leave it here. By realistic I meant the men look more like actual men. Instead of just pretty boys with almost no muscle and body hair. But yeah I agree everyone should just read or watch whatever they want for their own sexual fantasies. The problem I have is when people act like reading yaoi or yuri is some brave political activism. It's not that deep it's just a cheap romcom with sex scenes that's it. Reading yaoi or yuri doesn't mean you're looking for "representation" it just means you want to get off and that's fine.
