They wouldn't listen to him first because she is supposedly Crown Princes future wife, so she hold higher status than him. Second, because Aria is a daughter of a prostitute, no one would agree with him to not marry Mielle or whatever was her name but Aria instead *just cuz they are dumb fawks* sigh, and third, his sister is way smarter than him *even tho i dont like her* so there's really no way that if he went against her anything would change. And Aria might've helped him, but not cuz he likes him or anything, but cuz it would lead her on the way to the revange.
