I'm not gonna lie. Having to decide between living in a reality where you're unable to connect with the people around you versus a fiction world where you're beloved by almost everyone, i would have done the same thing. Its like choosing to live in your fantasy world v reality and reality sucks so if I had the chance to enter a novel or video game you bet your ass id take it.
