I think the old lady give him fake jewel? The old lady still wear hers as necklace tho. I’d like to think that it’s a secret tradition for the previous Beholder to give the current Beholder a fake jewel to put in the shrine. Maybe the previous Beholder before the old lady also gave her fake jewel so she didn’t have to give hers.

So after crying ugly tears I think its something like, if the beholder keeps the god's crystal with them, they can see or feel that god's presence. Is what I think. Maybe that's why the old lady said it'll be alright, cause she saw her sister as well since she didn't return the jewel herself, and since she was old now, she gave hers up so tarou could keep his. Would explain the last scene. What do you guys think?
