The ML do know why she broke up with him (he heard the gossip) and yeah i guess that's why now when he confess he can't take it anymore. It's actually good for him to distance for a while.

You might think she's selfish now but its actually better for her to settle her past trauma first before jumping into relationships with him (eventhought its mutual)
Because her trauma can haunt her back and ruin their new relationship and i don't think third try is possible anymore.
