It was probably more of a situation where they didn't know each other directly. Ryuu put out feelers for the date with people he knew and it ended up reaching sensei through a mutual friend.
I think he said he would ask around his circle of friends so maybe he was a friend of a friend ya know?
how did the sensei not know it was ryu when ryu introduced the sensei to the friend?
