If i were in this guy's shoe.. i wouldve given up already and just enjoy the perks and benefits of a favored one.. then die when its time to. I wont have long to live anyways.. he said he's terminally ill.. so why struggle more.. phew.. that way, people wont die because of him.

He'd been mentally and physically tortured by the emperor. The day he died, he thought he'd escaped it all. Now, 100 years later, he is still continuously plagued by those memories and to make matters worse, his nightmares turn to reality; he meets his abuser again. It's quite understandable why he wants nothing to do with his abuser. He's given a second chance in life, but to have his life wasted at the hands of his abuser again....It's cruel to ask him to go through it again. Esp now that we know it's a short life and he deserves to live it on his terms. Plus, I hate this karma accumulation and how it's calculated. The emperor is doing all the killing, he's doing it indiscriminately. His subjects know he's mad but still try to infuriate him by messing with the one he treasures. In a way, they're all to blame for their own fates, but the uke has to suffer the most!? That's seriously fucked up.

My exact thoughts. I know it is a fictional story, but I felt that the uke should not have to deal with karma since it was the emperor who did the killing. It is a wonder that the uke didn't go insane! I would go insane if I were in his shoes.
