Pretty much Law was trying to break Jesse's mental superiority when it came to their relationship. Law felt that he was always being controlled in a sense that Jesse only provided solutions that would only mean Law would choose Jesse always.
With some time and distance from each other, Law and Jesse met again after the Brown Company had suffered a loss due to the memory manipulation program that Law had created. At this point, it looks like it is possible that Jesse was then forced into the virtual reality where he experienced several different scenarios that ended up being portrayed as real memories [they happened in the virtual reality] and each time the stress would get to Jesse, he would ask for the memories to be erased again which was not what Law actually wanted.
So, the last scenario where Law tells Jesse that he would need to die if Jesse decides to finally "leave" is almost symbolic as it mostly refers to the Law we see in the flashback about how he was nothing more than a tool for his parents and how he felt controlled by Jesse, being unfair and not on equal footing. Jesse then realizing, thinking of all the sacrifices that Law had made to him, should then be equal in that death and finally fucking choosing Law.
I, myself, feel like that the ending was rushed a bit, I feel like there needed to be a bit more of a reflection on Jesse's part after coming out of the virtual reality, to really process what exactly happened and his actual feelings when it came to Law.
