It's been a while since I've read this haha but I remember thinking from the start that it looked like Taichi loved Touma but he was so washed up in his inferiority complex that he never even considered that. But maybe I'm just misreading cues.
I cried a couple times and this was a really really good manga but what the fuck were those last couple chapters
