I think it is not like that, but I am not sure.
When he got marked he started feeling attraction to all snake tribe members equally. It is just attraction, not feelings, and it just makes having feelings for one of them easier, not mandatory.
I think the feelings go away when they take the marking off not because the feelings come with the mark, but because the attraction lessens, so the feelings can remain. It is just that it is not the same afterwards, so the relationship may change and they can drift appart.
I think that is how it works.
i dont know if i remember it clearly but it was said that the mark-er and the marked one would have a somewhat love connection and if the mark is erased all the feelings will be gone right? (correct me if im wrong) so if alek marked hen, then, hen's feelings for ivan is real right?/
