There’s nothing wrong with liking rape in yaoi, the problem arrives when the rape is romanticized. A good example of rape done well is Harada’s works. Her works clearly illustrate that rape is wrong and damaging and that the characters are greatly affected by it. Fetishization can also mean unhealthy obsession. Which many (mainly straight cis girls) exhibit. Please do some research into the harm your ideas may cause.

yaoi is written by people for other people and yes the majority of people who read and write it are female but what does that mean to anything? that we shouldn’t try to respectfully portray the romance between gay men. this shit has real life effects on the way people view gay men and even the way it shapes their own views on romance. Normalization of abuse in the media you can consume can normalize it in your own brain which is also a problem in other media. Also artist don’t get a free pass from backlash just because they’re creating something from passion. They’re not some type of people above the rest of us and they need to be held accountable for their actions. Accurate and responsible portrayal should be the standard and just because we see many artists not doing it doesn’t mean it’s right.

What does me not being a gay man have to do with anything? Just because i’m not part of a group doesn’t mean i can’t argue on a issue that affects them. And it doesn’t just affect them it also affects the readers. Criticism doesn’t impune on free speech. A publisher refusing to publish a yaoi that includes romanticized rape doesn’t impune on free speech. A true artist understands that their works have real life effects on people who consume it therefore they hold responsibility in the things they produce and their actions. I have not once in this conversation advocated for the removal of rights for artists. I called for more criticism of harmful works. is it taking away the rights of artists when we ban child porn because there may be an artist behind the production of it? No because artists are people and people take responsibility for their actions.
