It's not about the non-con sex, it's about how it was incorporated (which was bad). The plot was stupid. The bishounen guy took revenge on the yankee guy for some petty shit he did when they were kids, when clearly, the yankee guy changed. Like, bruuuh.
As you said, it shouldn’t be and is a really strong topic, but it’s a fact that in 95% of bl authors use some sort of abuse as a starting point for a plot. It’s wrong and wicked, and I think it’s really unnecessary, but you don’t get anything by complaining and offending the authors.
It’s not that we’re romanticizing rape, it’s that it’s so recurring that we just gave up on complaining, ignored that part and enjoyed the rest of the story.
