No it's not a thing XD, but I had similar experience like that. I have to be fluent in English for my job so I decided to make work arrangements with my boss and apply in a 3 years English diploma course with my little sister. And everyone in my year is a fresh highschool graduate. Later they couldn't believe that I'm almost 30, they always thought my little sister is older than me, or we're like a cousin or something. And the lecturers also kept asking really you girls are sibling? You're older? And stuff like that. Their reactions always amused me.
So is that a thing in Japan, adults with baby face passing as students for “fun” in high school?
