Lucio's past is tragic
His father loved her mother. She was a maid that he knew when he was visiting one of his palace. She fell in love with him too. Since then, he decided to take her to this palace and to only serve him. At that time he didn't have a queen but all the nobles wanted him to take one, He didn't want to, he asked her lover if she was ok with that and she said yes so he married another woman. Lucio's mother couldn't became a queen bc she wasn't a noble, she could only be a concubine. The queen and she didn't have a bad relationship. However, the concubine noticed that she was pregnant, she was shocked and happy bc she was going to have a baby of the man she loves. The queen hated that fact bc the emperor didn't love her and she.. was infertil. When Lucio was born, he only lived with her mother for a month bc the queen took him away and didn't allow the concubine to meet him.
The queen always abused of him. When he was 15 years old, the queen told him that she will love him if he kills someone, he didn't want to but didn't have another option bc he really wanted her to love him but when he realized who he killed, he was devastated, the queen told him that that person was his real mother, that she only adopted him.
In the case of Rose, she was raped by her own brother and her family didn't do anything to save her. I think she was an illegitimate daughter too
She doesn't love the emperor. Her intention is to become the dowager queen after she kills Lucio when she already had a son

He went to tell his report to Rose but when he heard that if that was the case, she will chose a specific candidate *don't remember her name*, the doctor decided to tell her that Patrizia was infertile bc that candidate was from the family he served and he was loyal to them, he knew that if she became the queen, she will suffer, that's why he lied
