Hmmm I kinda agree with you that the story of 10 y was pretty straight forward and I also didn’t sympathise with the characters a lot. But I think that happened cuz I just couldn’t relate to any of the characters. Also I thinl the plot of KS was pretty simple too but it was the complexity of the characters of KS that made it a really good psychological thriller. However the characters of 10 y were pretty simple imo. They were definitely not just 2 dimensional characters but the level of complexity was not at the level of KS. That’s kinda my opinion also pls excuse my horrible writing skills.
I guess how much you can relate to the characters do judge a lot on how much you enjoy it.
10 y is a really stereotypical drama with shitty scum characters. I mean, it'd be fun to put yourself through the emotional roller coaster if you imagine yourself having a lover whom you love dearly but ended up being scum, yet u still held minor hope for them to be nice.
For KS, aside the emotional aspect, there was also the thrill of murder, and excitement from hiding such aspects from the police. I can't relate to KS characters much, but I did enjoy figuring out how it'll end. I was disappointed that the Mc died though as that's how these stories usually end, was hoping it ends differently. It just made me feel like these characters really can't change their core characteristics.
Oh, don't worry. I do think that KS has complex argument as well as characters. For example, I think it's partially based off the mith of king Edipus (?), but with a big twist. Seonwoo loved Bum *thanks to him being a male, and *because he reminded him of a female... Among other things, there's a veil that you can only see once you reach the end of the story, for example, what was really said, what was implied, what was delusion... Etc.
Whiiile in 10 years, you have an asshole, the MC and his hardships. Happens at the end what was announced at the beginning... I agree, they're not bidimensional either, but to me, the story is kinda lacking.
(Yeah, I know I'm picky)
On KS, those characters complemented each other perfectly for the sake of the story. And one of them could change (at least the premise around him did), while the other remained unmodified. Sangwoo ended up calling for Bum, the real Bum at the end, once we knew he wasn't just a monster, that was deeply broken instead. Bum in the other hand, started chasing a fantasy, and ended doing the same, just no longer being able to chase S, cuz of course, he was dead.
ooooh okay i see your point now, well in that case i think it's based on each one and how much he can connect to the story ???
personally 10y hit me harder .. KS is good when u read it but i can't see myself there u get me ? it'z a story rarely happens (at least not in my boring life)
unlike 10y it's more of a true story, even without the death but for someone to love u so hard then turns on u and hurt u so bad till he looses u n he regret it so bad but it's too late ..
that's my opinion yet i can't i loved both of them so hard T^T T^T along with Lover boy ~
Hehe, I see....
I personally don't relate to 10 years then, because the second my partner treats me 1/10th of the 10Y MC, and I'm told I have a terminal decease.... I would pull a Sangwoo 100% on the asshole who dared to wrong me :D
So I definitely can relate more to KS even if it was real life. Haha! *Looks angelical while sputting all of that* :)
Hi all. Open question to anyone who read both Killing Stalking and 10 years where I loved you the most. I'll express my very personal take.
After KS, I was looking for something as well written and heart trobbing, but even after reading all the comic and comments of how emotional and tragic was 10 Y... I didn't really connect with it... I have the hunch the comic might not be as good as the novel, but overall I just didn't feel the emotional weight of it all, I never really empathize with the characters.
Also, 10 y is a very straight forward story, while KS is *very* complex and with layers of hidden meaning. I think not many people really understood the ending as well, or even the true intentions of the characters. Any opinion??
