It takes two to tango. He left her cause she cheated on him. Somehow they ended up getting together again to have Molly which means the dude cheated on his wife. Both parents and the grandma were hella messed up imo.
I don't think that she cheated on him at first tho. It just, she used to have a relationship and born a son. But even that son was given away. Most probably because of the grandma's interference

The father is a scumbag (whatever your reason is, you should never leave someone on the altar and didn't fix the problem at that). I don't see anything wrong for the grandma to hate the ML family. Her daughter's life was practically crushed. Yeah the daughter also a weak woman but well...you know....
Turns out, the jerkiness can be inherited even without the blood. Look at the son.
And not only that, apparently, the father did impregnated the mother to have the little sister (you can find it at book 3). Geez
