At the beginning we see how the MC was a sort of hero as a child. Turns out the person he saved as a child was the guy who lost his girlfriend, while the girlfriend was the person bullying him as a child as a way to get his attention. While the MC was being possessed the guy got confused since he didn't know whether he still liked his girlfriend or started liking the MC. The girlfriend saw that I think and decided that if it's the MC she can let him go.
I don't know if they actually started dating but that's what I think happened in a nutshell...
