The problem is that you're trying to control people's methods of creative expression. You can't dictate that this is how these people should be portrayed and this is how they shouldn't be portrayed. That is up ... aomineisdreamy

So is it wrong when a group request more representation, like black people asking more characters on show like them (or complaining that black characters are only put to die in movies)
or a group requesting that they stop putting some negative stereotypes of them, like making the slut always the bad woman
    and etc?

Anon would rather yell at girls on the internet than do anything to actually help the rape victims she claims to care so much about. I'm just glad loons like her don't have the power or authority to censor us o... aomineisdreamy

    1) Let's please drop the pretense that this is about gay people being represented properly. First, the rape trope is not due to prejudice or malice like your example of black characters always being the ones to die. It's not the mangaka trying to send a mean message about the homosexual population. She's playing into a trope that a lot of people find sexy. It's not a homophobia thing. This trope exists in yaoi, het, and (probably) yuri. Moreover, yaoi is mostly guys. Mostly gay guys. Women in yaoi are rare and straight people and couples in yaoi are rare too. What would be prejudiced is if they were mangas that had a whole mix of people with different sexualities and relationships and it's always the gay one that starts with rape. On its own, yaoi is no different from most shoujo or josei mangas, except it's two guys rather than one guy and one girl. You have no argument here. There are plenty of consensual yaois out there, but you're bothered by the very existence of non-con ones.

    2) Your position is really inconsistent. Originally, your argument was that it's wrong to enjoy fiction that has the rape trope in it because it is harmful to real rape victims. Then, you changed it and said that it's not wrong to enjoy rape trope as long as the person getting raped is the same *gender* as you are. After that, you tried to make it about objectification and exploitation, and now representation of minorities? Give me a break; you're clutching at straws here. The truth of the matter is that you think it's icky and that everyone else should too.

    3) If what you're really after is to add diversity to the world of yaoi manga and put more consensual yaoi out there, then what are you doing on this thread? What are you doing insulting the OP? Why did you call I Thot You Was a Toad a rape apologist for defending the mere *existence* of rape trope and people's right to enjoy it? What you seem to want is to wipe this sub-genre out of existence and to get people to stop liking it. You wanna censor it all just because it offends your eyes. You don't get to police people's thoughts and control their fantasies. What you're doing is the equivalent of marching into a steakhouse and complaining that there are no vegetarian options and anyone who eats there is a sicko, that the place should be shut down. Stop harassing the people here.

Well spotted. For a second there, I thought I was getting through to her just a little bit, but then she randomly brought up representation and stereotypes..

I'm asking those points because I think it's confusing?
also, I'm not saying anymore if it's about objectification and all.
From what I get it's more about rape itself don't fall in that category as a negative representation, right?

    rephrasing what I understood:
The representation of rape can never be bad (even if it's about a group of people you are not in)

ok. I know i'm not needed in this situation, but seriously. What the fuck. Why did you even click on this. IT HAS THE WORD "RAPE" IN THE QUESTION. I don't get people who click on something when they KNOW that they won't like it. You're being ignorant. Bye now.
