Unpopular Opinion Alert

I already know I'm the only one that feels this way but I was so irritated about it that I feel like I have to get it out to feel better. Kami was nothing but irritating to watch. So goddamn frustrating/annoying/irritating. I read the comments before I read the story and they made it seem like he was this wonderful person with just the best heart and so sweet but he honestly really wasn't. He wasn't any of those things. I dont get why everyone is fawning over him like that. Next to his garbage ass coworkers I thought he was the absolute worst character in this story. Not only that, but even when I was at the 4th chapter it felt like nothing had even happened yet. It just went on and on about fucking nothing for 6 chapters and even then the only character growth that happened was Waki! Kami is nothing but a selfish burden and a fucking damsel in distress the whole time. This story was just straight up ass to me. It was frustrating as hell to get through and I'm so glad it's finally over. Easily the worst manga I've read in a long while. 0/10 never gonna read again. Waki and kami's mom were the ONLY good characters in this story. I said what I said and feel free to disagree. Here's some cute faces to end this rant cause I already know that I've just pissed everyone off ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶(▰˘◡˘▰)ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

The way I see it, rather than being a selfish burden or a damsel in distress, he's just extremely insecure.

I agree that he's insecure but to me he was insecure to the point of coming off as an obnoxious damsel. That's just me though.

Since I've read the prequel short that came before this, I understand why it took so dang long for Kami to get over his insecurities, so I don't necessarily see him acting as the annoying damsel in distress. In the prequel, we learn that Kami has basically been isolated from his school days because gay rumors started spreading about him going after every guy he became friends with. Years have passed and nothing has changed, his co-workers still isolate him. The ONLY guy who accepted him and also his first friend/crush got married (this BROKE my heart in the prequel bc I thought it was a oneshot) and since then Kami just basically accepted that he's going to be alone forever. His insecurities made sense to me, hell, if I went through what he did I'd act the same.

Then Waki comes along, clearly straight guy, acting all bright and friendly and even when he found out Kami is gay, said it's nothing and it doesn't matter. This is a big blow to Kami, who's already developed feelings for Waki. It's the same as saying "Oh you're gay? I don't mind because we are still friends right????" when Kami has already started to have hope and want more.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, but you should really read the prequel oneshot, maybe it'll change your mind about Kami. I just think he already suffered so much that he couldn't be confident in Waki's feelings for him.

Update me on how that goes! I believe the prequel in Chapter 5 of another series where two co-workers act as each other’s sleep buddies/human pillow

I don't get what damsel in distress about Kami.

He's a single guy who worked minimum wage as a construction worker for 15 years leaving his mom alone. When his mom fell sick, he chose to went back to his home town to care of his mom.

Then on top of that Waki, the guy that he like, is a public figure. Being outed as gay will harm Waki's career. Another reason for not pursuing the budding feelings.

Added to that.. Waki was straight before meeting Kami. Yet another reason.

And then Kami was bullied by his peers from childhood to working age. Probably causing lots of enotional baggage, depression, insecurities, etc.

I think Kami made a realistic decision. He's not suddenly dissapear on Waki. He talked about it with Waki.

He explained about his mom's situation, he explained about his personal situation, in the manga he said he work for 15 years and feel like he have nothing to show to his mom. That means his financial situation is not good, especially if he have to think about caring for his mom's health.

He love Waki but he feels that his love alone is not enough, and that it's best to end the relationship.

Waki decided to let Kami go too, it's not a one sided decision. And then when Waki realized he wanted Kami, what did he do? He outed himself on a national television. Worse? He dragged Kami's name and involuntarily outed Kami too on national television without Kami's consent. That's not what I call a character development. In fact, I called it selfish and irresponsible.

It all turns well in the manga. But it's laughable that you think Kami's decision to end the relationship as a selfish burden but turns a blind eye to what Waki have done.

Both of them have flaws. Kami is not a damsel in distress and Waki is definitely not a knight in shinning armor.
