Tbh i think you'd do it to if ur in Hyesung's shoe. I think we all would. Even my own parents yell at me as a child and tbh i don't even blame them for yelling at me cause being a parent is hard as fck and taking care a child is not easy. And the fact Hyesung is a young parent, truamatized, and was abused in the past makes me it even more difficult for him. Tbh i think Hyesung is just worried for Byul. Hyesung has his own insecurities just like all of us. He's afraid of being judge, his afraid that he may not meet the specific circumtances for raising byul, he's afraid for Byul's future and maybe he's afraid that byul might hate him. If you want Hyesung to have any character develop u have it. He is developing just compare him to his old self. Hyesung is developing as an adult and a parent. And if you don't want to be there for his worst then im sorry you can't be there at his best.
LONG REPLY WARNING
You seem like you are trying to at least understand Hyesung, so lemme attempt to explain everything you could possibly not understand.
You mentioned (1) took the ring off (2) shouted at Byul (3) character development. Let us address them one by one.
(1)
- Story is based in Korea. Hyesung is 18/19. Hyesung married AND had a child before entering college, that's just a recipe for judgement. I'm sure it differs for other countries, but generally East Asian countries expects one to graduate college/uni AND be financially stable before marriage. Social norms are slowly changing here, but most people also frown upon pre-marital sex, especially among teenagers (reminder that he's 18! Not considered an adult yet in those countries). It's seen as reckless and irresponsible. He would have been mocked or heavily criticised if he had admitted it. No wonder he didn't want to reveal. Taking the ring off was a way to get people to not ask about his love life, because people see a ring and they are bound to ask like what just happened in this chapter, right?
- Q: Who the fuck cares about these strangers? Realize its a social norm and its not a few people who will judge. Nearly EVERYONE will judge. Hyesung hasn't been in school for a long time and is now in a new environment. Would you blame him for playing it safe and not want to reveal to STRANGERS who most likely would not sit down and listen to his full story? It's not like you go around spilling your life stories to strangers on your first day of school after not schooling for years right?
- Q: Is he ashamed of his marriage? Up to subjective interpretation. But personally, I don't think so. He was clearly very relieved when he found his ring, which shows that he does treasure this marriage. He appears to be hiding it out of his fear of judgement, not because he belittles Dojin or their marriage. Also note that Dojin is famous, and bringing his friends home might cause more trouble for Dojin than you might think, especially when these are strangers that he doesnt know well and trust yet. I believe Hyesung knows and considered this, due to /character development/(!! Yay!). See (3) for this.

- What he did was wrong, period. But it's understandable why he would do so.
- Stress: new school (after not schooling for years) + parenting is a whole lot of stress for anyone. I don't think alot of people in the comment section gets this because not a lot of people actually experience this.
- Culture: Academics are very important in Korea. Just look up teenage suicide rates globally and you will see Korea as the first few. Then check the top reasons for it. Hyesung knows he's dumb, and he's worried Byul would end up like him and face the same hardships. Remember how Hyesung could only get that shady scam job and nothing else because he had no qualifications? Truth is, if you don't have results to show, you're pretty screwed in Korea.
- And yes, he was projecting his own insecurities onto Byul, but that's human nature. Projection is a defense mechanism for the human ego against insecurities (and other things). It's hard to blame Hyesung for this when you do it, I do it, and everyone else does it too.
- Hyesung's upbringing: His childhood was one of negligence and he probably didn't know a healthy parent-child dynamics. Cant blame him when he didnt even have a good example to model.
- Experience: First time parent, first time taking care of someone else. Who's a perfect parent the first time round? Heck, is there ever a perfect parent? No, parents all hurt their children in different ways, intentionally or not. Enough said.
- Social norms: I dont know if you have Asian parents, but yelling at your kid because they dumb is pretty common here. If he didn't have a good childhood to reference from, where do you think is his reference? Society of course!
- Conclusion: circumstances make his actions understandable, not excusable. What he did was still wrong, but it's hard to blame him completely when it was a culmination of so many different factors

- Hyesung has gone through a lot of character growth actually, as detailed below. We can acknowledge both that AND the fact that he still has so much more space to grow.
- Before: ditzy idiot who only cares about himself and can barely take care of himself (remember how he only gave birth to Byul for the money?).
- Now: he cares about his family and is trying to take care of them.
- He cares enough about Dojin's feelings to call him "Honey" even past that vulnerable, insecure stage in their relationship (I honestly thought he wouldn't).
- He was okay with Dojin's family disliking him, but couldn't bear them disliking Byul because he wants Byul to grow up in a loving environment that Hyesung didn't get.
- He's trying his hardest to study. The manhwa didn't show much of it and showed mostly him slacking but do you really think one can go from single digit to a barely passing grade in English by slacking alone? (That's a 40+ point difference) Especially for someone who's dumb like him? He sure put in effort.
- For a college student who's 18, who doesn't want to go out and have fun with friends? Especially when you are new and these social gatherings are the starting points for closer-knit groups. He chose to give that up to take care of Byul. You may think it's obligation, but I know many people who would abandon their baby at home to have fun outside especially when they are so young at this crucial stage of transition
- Bottom line: He has grown to be more responsible for his and other's lives, by caring and trying to take care of others.
- Emotionally, he's become more mature. He used to whine about everything, but now says nothing when Dojin was too busy to come home for three days straight. Why? Do you think it's because he doesn't give a shit about Dojin (see previous points!)? Or maybe it's because he's more understanding of other's needs now?
- Additional: he has literally never taken care of anyone in his life. Heck, he couldn't even take care of himself. He didn't even want Byul in the first place, but he took to courage to learn to be a better mother (though he sucks at it, couldn't even hold Byul properly in his arms). Is that not character development? He was already doing something so out of his character so many chapters ago and is still trying (see previous points!)
- That being said, he obviously still has space for growth. I just don't think you should chuck away the growth he's had for the past 77 chapters. That's rude and you're just making yourself angry.
GRRRR im trying my best to like hyesung but I still cant... i mean I know he's going through a lot and is unstable but I cant stop the feeling that he's so annoying and he even took the ring off and shouted at byul. Yeah, he's worried about him but don't take your anger on your kid boy
I want a character development already, is it too much
