Not sure but I think it's what the duchess wants... and since the mc wants to change something in their contract, she will do anything to be an arabella so that she could request to change their contract after.
In the beginning she asked the duchess to adopt her. In exchange she would bring prestige by becoming the Arabella. There was also another part where she wanted to change the contract so that they become real family
