it was aria's grandmother (chloe's mother) who married someone from the imperial family but chloe was not directly (blood) related to anyone on the imperial family because his biological father was the marquis of the kingdom of croa.
her mother married or rather was forced to marry that one member of the imperial family while she had already been pregnant with the child of the marquis of croa. the author went with a somewhat complicated explanation regarding their situation to explain aria's time manipulation ability while avoiding to give any direct blood relation to aria and asher.
furthermore, this explains why aria can only use her ability once a day because she needs to be a direct descendant of the imperial family (or i think needed to be the empress) to be able to use her ability multiple times (like how asher does) without her ability eating up her entire energy for the day.
