I think the same way for the most part.
The heavenly tribulation is not a tribunal of actual jurors, though. It's a typical cliché concept in Chinese martial arts fantasy novels that describes how those becoming stronger than they were originally meant to be are naturally put to the test, by Nature itself, because they need to prove it to Nature that they're strong enough, and thus that they're "worthy", of being allowed to keep challenging (altering) the "natural laws" or the "natural order" (in order to keep "improving" themselves). This is derived from popular cultural beliefs related to Asian pseudoscience and somewhat derived from concepts of the Daoist religion, about the possibility of learning to use some sort of mystical "universal energy" in order to keep becoming spiritually and physically stronger, enough to greatly outlive your natural lifespan more and more, and become capable of performing certain actions that seem like "magic", due to the way they allow you to alter your body and/or your surroundings in a way not everyone can, and which seems that seems supernatural. The typical example is through the use of "magical" martial arts (think Dragon Ball Z, for example). The final outcome of following that self-improvement path, to the very end, is to eventually become sort of like a "god-like" being, and that's why Nature puts you through a test spontaneously.
In this novel, it is said dragons naturally experience tribulation sooner or later because their very existence as powerful magical beings that can perform stuff that ordinary, nonmagical beings (human and nonhuman) can't.
Yeah, it's a natural occurence for most dragons. The reason Ao Ao was scared of it is because he sensed he was born "deficient", like something had gone wrong with his birth, and he was right. That's because Ao Ao's "birth" didn't happen "naturally", but he was created by Xiao Jifeng somehow. Meaning that Xuan Yue wasn't naturally reincarnated into Ao Ao, but because Xiao Jifeng tampered with Xuan Yue's soul/spirit, and Ao Ao was the result. ...That, and the fact that Ao Ao's elder brother made someone take away a part of Xuan Yue's essence that was inside baby Ao Ao, so that Ao Ao's own life wouldn't be influenced by his past self, left Ao Ao as a a being whose soul has been artificially tampered with too many times, almost making him an artificial creation that in a way "defies the natural order", making it reasonable to think that the natural order would use the occasion of Ao Ao's tribulation to "correct" this alteration of the natural order... The key issue here is, how (by destroying him, or by "fixing" him altogether, somehow? ...Either way, only Nature knows).
ohh this reason might play the part of why he doesnt have much power for a dragon. that sealed essence to his completion needs to be fixed which would mean the need of getting Xuan yue soul intact,, and goes hand in hand with aoao remembering his past reincarnation to have his power back as one of the dragons. The more aoao get close to ryan and remember his past, the more he will regain his original power back. Im kinda worried about Xiao jifeng and Xuanyue 's reicarnation consciousness tho,, looks like they still have the soul of their own and all of them 4 share just 2 bodies.. like are they going to go rest when they resolved their own conflict and leave aoao and ryan alone? But theyre gods tho, and quite immortal at that.. hmm like live as a spirit then? I hope all 4 of them live happy and resolved everything.. but the manhua is still ingoing,, so im looking forward where is the storyline going.
They're not gods, though... There is a whole succession of several tribulations one needs to go through before they can become a "god". Each tribulation marks the passage from one stage/level of improvement to the next one above (that is, if you manage to survive each tribulation). When they reach the "end", and do become gods, they become a sort of god that is completely different from the gods that still live in this world: a "celestial" god. That means they disappear from this world altogether, because they have sort of become "angel-like beings, who live in a superior state of existence, completely out of reach from this world. Even dragons have a long way to go before they can reach that state.
Nah, Xiao Jifen and Xuan Yue don't actually have a separate soul of their own... They're just the sealed memories of Ao Ao and Ryan's past selves, who just happen to be somewhat sentient. In other words, each of them is just fragment of Ryan's and Ao Ao's own souls, which means they have no way to exist on their own anymore. Think of them as just the "second personalities" of two people suffering from disociative disorder (Ao Ao and Ryan), lol. Thinking of them existing on their own is like thinking your hand could permanently take over your entire body, or separate itself from your body in order to go live on its own.
oho so many things revealed up to this point, aoao brother's name is ao gu, and theyre not real siblings,, more like a lifetime oath. back in the chapters, they said “deity cant achieve immortality of great deity or smt more when he feels passion or love,, need to be emotionless” and thats what grandpa has been angry for big brother/ao gu,, because grandpa is inlove with ao gu,, and latest chap, we had seen grandpa said “his blood is red too” this statement probably relates something of the same,, either bigbro past is human, rare deity like him in past(grandpa was somehow hidden like a treasure), or have the same curse as granndpa and is also inlove with him (the last one kind of contrast tho, since ao gu is still a god,, the curse probably means “they” cant achieve higher form of cultivation and stays like that with that power forever,, afterall granpa is still a deity, but is just lower (in terms of hierarchy is it, granpa is earth god,, and the dragon gods probably up above that status much),, now im curious about the heveanly tribunal.. is that actually a neutral and powerful matter above all of them dragon gods or is that a council full of higher gods?
Back to aoao and ryan, so it was confirmed that Aoao past life xuan yue is a black dragon from that old tale. xiao jifeng/ ryan's past is still a bit unexplained but he might be the human in the tale but is influenced by the black pearl they were looking for now in the current story. As you can notice earlier chapters,, aoao can see that black sphere inside ryan,, it must have been why aoao incidentally comes near to where he is. Ryan who offered to gelp aoao doesnt know that black pearl is inside himself.
Back to the flashback conflict,, Xiao jifeng/ryan wants to pass Xuanyue/past aoao some kind of power from the black pearl for reasons still not reveal about the why there is a need to do so. I think its a power to help for the heveanly tribunal too but when xuan yue/ past aoao didnt agree, Xiao Jifeng/past ryan forced it unto him in a physical way. For XuanYue to have the power to withstand heveanly tribulation because Xiao jifeng is adamant with the line “You promised not to leave me”. We just now know that heveanly tribulation will kill a dragon god or reduced him to be so weak and barely alive if he cant withstand the tribulation. Succesful heavenly tribulation means power and growth to like what happened to aoao pink haired friend. Anyway,, looks like Black pearl power owned by Xuao jifeng/ past ryan killed Xuanyue,, and when bigbro came,, he killed Xiao jifeng.
When it comes to reincarnation then, big bro who doesnt know xuanyue and xiao jifeng love each other,, he cut aoao ties to fall in love. Aoao right now, still feels something for xiao jifeng in the past because his heart races seeing the ring,, and a push & pull affection towards ryan. however Xuan yue has this “I hope you will never be together with the person you love” curse to past ryan,, so did they fall out of love in that moment,? or is that xuanyue just being himself towards xiao jifeng and died unexpectedly? is tgere also something inside xuanyue/past aoao??
Theres this mention in the manhua where xiao jifeng disentegrates his soul for love (xuan yue),, did he catch the heavenly tribulation with xuan yue? Xuanyue's past memory is also disentegrated and theres some part missing for reasons still not revealed why.
the author is really good to draw and explain scenes which has a strong point and could derail readers mind to story's actual plot. Now im thinking twice about “Xiao jifeng persona” right now xD this might be also part of plan of the author.xD
