Obvious, he's in middle school and, what's more, is his step brother.... But wait till Masato returns from high school (Koi ni Nare) or university. I can't accept a bad ending, he is the one who deserves more happiness, he's a good son, a good friend and a cute and cheerful boy, he decided to put a distance between his brother and him and i really believe that it was in order to protect his family (not only his feelings).
