You do realize that abuse and trauma can affect anybody at whatever mental age they are at? Do you realize that these kids were abandoned by an emperor who did not care about their situation? He knew their mother would harbor hostile and negative feelings, but did not check on his own children. The princes knew they had smaller siblings but never cared. They have the ability to act like children, so why not use it? Why should they put up with a neglectful family who thinks a few favors can make up for years of abuse? The pace at which this is progressing is already unrealistic enough. Don't be stupid.

How were they supposed to know it's not the Emperor's fault? As far as they're concerned he, a person with the highest authority on the kingdom, turned a blind eye on their suffering and is basically an accomplice to their mother's abuse.
