I have not finished the novel, but from what I've read the mom doesn't really do a lot for Aria. Sure she doesn't want her daughter to be mistreated and looked down on, but she doesn't go out of her way to teach Aria things, give her connections, or confront the count for his obvious favoritism. It could be cause she's scared he will divorce her, but...
I think you're expecting too much from a woman who's been a prostitute nearly her whole life lol. She isn't educated and most likely doesn't have connections anyway since most nobles ridicule her. Her livelihood entirely depends on the count so of course she can't confront him, if he divorced her, both her and Aria would be homeless.
Yeah, I get that and those are totally valid points. BUT she did make sure her daughter had maids and I wouldn't be shocked if there was behind the scenes stuff we didn't see. She manages to remain married to the count, I think she's plenty smart tbh. Having hands tied in public doesn't mean she doesn't have connections. Plus since we didn't follow the momma's story how do we KNOW she didn't do other things?

Personally I like manga that show a mom being protective in some light some I'm just glad that the mom showed any signs of discomfort with treatments of Aria.
I'm not saying she's a bad mom and I know that her hands are tied. I just meant that she doesn't really give a lot of support, besides not wanting her daughter harmed. Yeah, she can't really do much with her origins being so low, but she could at least visit Aria and spend more time with her, just so the girl doesn't feel so alone in the house.
Like not only has she backed her daughter, she will prob continue to do so and was pissed at the count being shady about not giving credit and tryna marry her off.
