maybe it’s just me but I’m the kind of person who empathises the most with tsundere characters who are dependent on the person they love and act submissively (willingly or not) like uenoyama and especially haruki.
to me it looks like uenoyama is the most underrated character, because some people just can’t get over the fact that sometimes he shouted at mafuyu and “didn’t sustain” him as much as he was supposed to.
well, guess what? he’s human as well and he needs to be protected as well!! and he’s trying to face a very difficult situation in which he got stuck with another person’s past and insecurities.
for a while all his life has been around sustaining mafuyu, helping mafuyu, loving mafuyu, mafuyu here, mafuyu there, mafuyu everywhere! while mafuyu (at least at the beginning) was seeing his ex boyfriend in uenoyama and not uenoyama himself!
akihiko was in pain and could not get over his past and it’s basically the same situation as mafuyu, even though ugetsu is still alive (and maybe it’s even more difficult: yuki now lives only in his beloveds’ heart, while ugetsu is in front of akihiko’s eyes everywhere).
akihiko and mafuyu were drowning and needed someone to save them from despair, the first found haruki, the second uenoyama.
the most difficult thing uenoyama and haruki have to deal with is this: THE FEELING OF BEING A F*CKING REBOUND!!
how can haruki trust akihiko again after having been treated like sh*t by him? because akihiko did nothing but taking him for granted!! but haruki’s love is so strong, his heart is so kind that he forgives him and offers him his help.
how can uenoyama cancel the mark that yuki has left on mafuyu? he can’t! but he wants to try to make other marks, darker than the ones yuki left, so he can cover the old ones.
but yuki will always be somewhere in mafuyu’s heart and uenoyama has to bear with it, there’s no escape. do you find that easy? because it’s not! and the proof of uenoyama’s incredibile mental strength is the fact that he actually successfully empathised with yuki, who was his boyfriend’s ex and who is actually DEAD, and worked on yuki’s old demo, even though it basically was a love letter from this deceased guy to his current boyfriend.
like uenoyama‘s sister said: “it would be hell”.
the fact that there are people that criticise uenoyama really pisses me off! him and haruki are not suffering about the past, they’re suffering about the present! I think they are actually the ones currently suffering the most!
what is their role in their boyfriends’ life? do their boyfriends really love them or are they just willing to fall in love with them? is it really “love”? and if it’s not, is it “like” at least? are they supposed to save them? that’s all?
because they’re not two f*cking red crosses nurses.
they need to be loved willingly and completely by someone too.

I hope mafuyu and akihiko understand this soon.
