I noticed this when I first started reading this series and have not been able to not notice it. Your comment is the only one I've seen so far mentioning it. I'm so glad I'm not the only one feeling some type of way about this!

Me too! I really like rectangular pupils (and went down a rabbit hole looking up differently shaped pupils in animals because of it).
I don't know if it is a stylistic choice or not. Either way, they're cool. Now if only artists can give their characters w-shaped pupils like cuttlefish.

Me neither to be honest. I thought about it afterwards and realized I created my own nightmare I'd need some serious therapy to get that out of my head
Depending on the art style, it would be really interesting. Since I've never seen any artist try this, it's hard to picture it. Part of me feels it may come off as a bit unnerving and hard too at, but I think in the right context it would be cool. Like if the character was from the ocean.
I could try it on my new oc but to would probably end up looking horrible since I can't draw but it looks cute and cool in my head if only I could transfer that on paper
