How can she regret having a mother-daughter relationship with Leslie without truly having that kind of relationship? Her regret is proof that she thinks of Leslie as her real daughter, since she otherwise would have nothing to lose. And her regret is reasonable considering that the pain of losing a daughter could have been avoided. That is not the case with her sons as they were born into the family. The only regret she could have about them is giving birth to them.

i think her regret means that because she adopted leslie and treated her like real family + by asking her to become an arabella, she is putting leslie in real danger, and ofc as a mother who love her daughter, she doesn’t want that. and also just when leslie finally have a family and could live happily too.. she, actually the whole salvatore family and the knights love and adore her so i don’t think her regret is on the negative side
I used to love the duchess but not anymore. I don't hate her but her wishing she didn't have this close relationship with Leslie ruins it for me.
I loved her because I thought she thought of Leslie exactly as a mother would regardless of the fact that they aren't related by blood but she obviously doesn't. She wouldn't have wished that one of her sons wasn't her real son or anything like that, she felt this way because Leslie isn't her real daughter and now that trouble is arising she is feeling regretful.
Do I think she is a bad person? No, but she sure is disappointing. I wish she never got close to Leslie and showed her motherly love if she was going to regret it. Leslie was prepared to have a contractual relationship only with this family. She even held back and acted stiff in the beginning. They were the ones who asked her to consider them to be a real family and now the duchess is going back on that. How disappointing. Honestly, I expected disappointment from a lot of characters but never from her
