There is the romance tag but frankly I think it will be more complicated than that
Personally I really like the character of sensei even with him beating his wife and his relationship with the high schooler, I think there is more from him to retain than this backstory (obviously important but not the most)
Like his irrationality , his weird anger and this way of saying the contrary of what he wants, it's really looks like he's fighting demons within him and I find it really interesting
He reminds me of the guy from Buffalo'66
(Really good movie , I recommend)
The dynamism are basically the same (guy aggressive /angry with girl sweet /assertive)

Anyway hoping to see some development (either good or bad I don't really care)

I watched it BC I saw a music video using the scenes in the movie And I enjoyed its vibe.
I don't know any similar movie.
But I like moonrise Kingdom, it's a relaxing movie with beautiful colours and feelings.
It's just an assumption (plz do forgive me if im wrong) but since you said your an art student, I believe you'd enjoy things that's are beautiful
And to me, moonrise Kingdom was quite beautiful
