yeah he thought sending them away would protect them but instead he sent them to the gates of hell.
I agree but I’m glad that he’s trying to make an effort to right some of his wrongs albeit a bit clumsily

i mean this happens a lot to people in real life. Mothers who give birth to a child and know for a fact that they won't be able to raise them or give them a satisfactory life (due to personal reasons), typically give the child for adoption thinking that they are making the right choice. In some cases, they are. In other cases... exactly like Arien and Arjen...
I hate their emperor...cuz he couldn't have a right decision for the sake of his children
