I have no spoilers but maybe he's an asshole cause his mom spoils him and everyone treats him like he's this great special being destined to be the best. He probably thinks he's superior. Maybe when he was younger he didn't care about being royalty but his mom basically pushed it on him and he just went with it therefore never forming a bond with his sister. He's probably like Tia while he did get treated so much better he never experienced real love and that's probably why he's so screwed up.

I bet he's jealous of her sister because she's intelligent that's why he killed her after he uses her (besides her knowing many things) and he's prolly jealous of Duke also.
