Well, there's been a few plot twists so far. I mean, who expected Kaneki to turn out to be some cool killer ghoul. But I see where you're coming from, there's despair around every corner. Kaneki is slowly going insane, and I think he's going to snap really bad very soon, but that means something terrible has to happen. Unfortunately, It may have to do with Hide. But I think that the mangaka can turn it around, but it will take a while (which I don't mind). Though I'm certain there will be a lot of casualties, almost like in Hellsing.
I'm hoping Hide is the one to turn Kaneki from going full psycho

I just feel so sad seeing Kaneki like this :( It just breaks my heart to see him broken and going more and more insane ;(

About hide being eaten,its not sure that it really went like that.kaneki only says when i wokeup hide was gone and he had a sweet taste in his mouth.so maybe kaneki found something to eat or hide brought him something.if sui sensei kills hide ,i am pretty sure its gonna be a gruesome scene with lots of tears and feelings.
Maybe he ate a small part of Hide's flesh, like Nishiki did with his girlfriend. Hopefully that's what went down.
Yeah this manga sends the feels right to me. T.T I never felt bad before for a character that got super strong. Poor Kaneki.

I'm really not sure how I should feel about this manga. It makes me really sad because it was obvious that it can't not have a tragic ending. From the beginning it's solely the tragedy about Kaneki Ken. But now I wonder, maybe the mangaka is capable in putting in a plot twist and surprising us with a fulfilling ending without Kaneki Ken dying or leaving him in an unhappy situation. If so, the manga would absolutely deserve five stars.
