Actually I only watch the anime, the first one, not the 1412 version. They left it in cliffhanger but it's already complete. Turns out the mangaka made this before Detective Conan, when he finally had a plot about detective series, he uses or rather, recreate the characters here that's why they resemble them. Yup, the detective conan was like a reboot of these characters in another au and he actually liked it so he starts writing it and stop this. That's what I heard when I also ask the same thing about the anime
This is late but i’m pretty sure that the author said he was going to finish this after he has completed detective conan?? i’m not entirely sure but it’s something along those lines

Is this series still ongoing? Did the author drop it. I haven't heard any news about it since years ago with the releases of the anime. I hope it is not dropped and they pick it up again, this is one of my favorite thief manga ╥﹏╥
