I kind of agree... I see it on a lot of other yaoi too nowadays
Esp on older manga as well as new manga for people who are reading those recently
I feel like it’s always gonna be there on some of them and a lot of People hate on it
Don’t get me wrong rape is always bad and always will be but as a common trope... idk I dunno what much it will do for people to complain on it ? Like a whole culture shift in Japan is needed to change on Yaoi for to stop but I don’t think it will
I think nowadays people are more educated and against these things and speak out on it but idk how much is gonna change In these fiction stories
And I do think people are biased with certain stories lol
Personally, i think its more consumer feedback than anything. Ive been reading this genre for over 10 years and rxpe was a common theme in a lot of them. It normalized that type of behaviour for me. But as i grew older i realized that that was not an okay thing to normalize so i decided to police the things i read. Meaning, i leave comments on things i read that have rxpe in it, i dont read it if it warns of rxpe... things like that. Comparatively, there are now less incidents of rxpe in yaoi and bl, (its still there, but less) and i think part of the reason for that is the consumer's preference not to read these type of themes. Less demand = less supply. The people voicing their grievances here are likely doing the same, shifting the demand from one theme to another.
I completed agree! I’ve been reading yaoi bl for more than six years and I think that when you leave well written comments like this one it’s helps people understand that your not being mean or trying to impose your opinions on people your just trying to be honest with what you’ve read and how you feel about it! I personally don’t really like yaoi with rape, even if it’s just a “bit”! But No! And I appreciate it when others leave comments that give you a heads up on it that way you can make a more inform decision weather or not you want to read that particular yaoi or bl. Anyway! Thanks for the heads up! (▰˘◡˘▰)
I agree on that but what else can the author do besides putting rape in there. Like what can replace it in order to keep the plot going. Not trying to rude in anyway but I'm trying to make you see in the position of what the author feels like because it will be tough on the author on how to introduce it. Like its kinda hard to explain. But yeah the feedback is nice but readers really aren't giving a solution to what they don't like, for example I don't like this but I would like if you replace this with something else and then explain your opinion. This is my opinion ( ̄□ ̄||)
I honestly whole heartedly agree! And that will be awesome if there are less
But the thing I’m on is that... I’m not really sure if it will stop or if it is less? Because I honestly don’t have the stats for this and I genuinely do not know the culture shift in Japan in terms of yaoi so if you can tell me how you know it that would be awesome!
I just honestly can’t confidently say it, I’m not living in Japan so idk? Because the largest consumer, assuming, is in Japan, so the authors content will be targeted to them first and foremost.
Hello. Im back! Okay, so youre looking for a workaround right? An event that furthers the plot but doesnt involve rxpe? Ive written a lot of stories in my time so i should be able to give you something thats at the very least passable.
U = Uke
S = Seme
No sex ver:
So after S shows his sailor uniform to U, U becomes very awkward around him. U wont look S in the eyes and its overall a bad experience for S. S thinks that U now hates him coz of the crossdressing thing, so to try to make things better, S decides to change out of the sailor uniform. S assumes that U wouldn't mind lending him a shirt so he starts stripping then and there. U watches and he doesnt even notice how mesmerized he is, until his eyes travel up S's body and he meets S's eyes. U quickly looks away and S hides a laugh. Then you can proceed to Chapter 2 where U discusses his ED with his friends.
With vanilla-ish sex ver:
So after U sees S in drag, hes very obviously flustered, concerned, and turned on. He doesn't understand why. U pushes S away and asks for a moment to recollect himself. S starts inching closer again and asks him if U knows whats going on... if he understands what the hell is going on. U obvi says no, and S asks if he wants to know. U is hesitant but he trusts S so he asks, "How?" S replies with, "Im going to do something, if you don't like it, tell me" then S kisses U's cheek and U feels like his heart is going to explode. S, as soon as he sees U flustered, asks if he can do more. U agrees and you proceed with the sex, chapter 2 follows with the ED.
I think i was able to further the plot enough so that it connects to the next chapter, and i was able to do it without rxpe. I really dont think Rxpe is ever necessary for a plot unless the story is about a rxpe survivor. But thats just me.
Also the problem in this story isnt the plot. The reason why people are hating on this is not the plot (not entirely, at least some people thought the plot was boring but not everyone thought that so you know). The reason why the readers are mad is because the story romanticizes rxpe. Like, the manga makes it seem that since "the seme is a cute guy and someone the Uke knows so its okay for rxpe to happen" which is never the case. Because while we all know this is a work of fiction and should only be for entertainment, Its important for people to know and distinguish which themes are necessary, and which ones are normalizing toxic behaviours and mindsets. (Read: rxpe culture)
I dont really have the stats either. This is just based on what ive read the past ten years. What ive noticed. Things like that. For example, Omegaverse has been increasing in both volume and popularity recently as evidenced by the titles now available on this site. The same cannot be said ten years ago when omegaverse was more common in fanfiction rather than manga.
ten or so years ago, it was unreasonable to try to look for manga that didnt have dubcon coz almost every single one had it in one form or the other. Now, i have the option to skip a manga because it has themes i dont like and i still would have other mangas to read. Rather than pure volume of "mangas with rxpe 10 years ago" vs "mangas with rxpe now"; i was more concerned with the ratio between "mangas with rxpe" and the "no-rxpe mangas" 10 years ago vs now. I apologize if that wasnt clear.
As with japanese attitude towards yaoi and bl, again, im afraid i cant answer that because i am neither japanese nor do i live there. The opinions i post on here are just that - Opinions. They are based on what i have observed and what i perceive to be correct. I am open to being corrected so long as the correction is logical and reasonable. Please tell me if theres anything else i can clarify and, again, i apologize if i caused any confusion.
Ahaaa so a seasoned veteran fujoshi! Lmao nice to meet one, as I am one as well!
Ahh ok I thought they were opinions I just wasn’t sure because it sounded like you were stating a fact. But no I agree lol there’s a shit ton of abo lately, and I think I agree in terms of now maybe there’s less of the “rape”
But in a way that’s more dubcon? A light version of it. But if the ratio of yaoi and non-rape is increasing then that would be good :)
People be talking on how this is rape, (which it is) which makes the plot suck but isn't the rape part of plot in almost all yaoi's but people are fine with it, than how come with this story people hate against it. I think this was adorable and very enjoyable. People really do be thinking differently on the story even tho they start on rape, like how does that work, is it how it was presented, that makes people think of it differently.
