I'm noticing some comments hating the female lead, and maybe that's because she seemed like a cry baby but... Wouldn't you be also? What do we know about Maria, she never knew her real mother, her step mother hates her and when it came to a accident in the family they wished the misfortune upon her instead of their son.
Imagine that. That feeling. As someone with a mental illness who was the scapegoat in my family, I felt a kinship with Maria in that moment.
Now she's a young virgin whose been emotionally abused almost her whole life it seems, and suddenly a random devil is saying that you have to have sex 666 times. You're first time with your true love, that's gone now. She has to come to grips with that, that's a big deal for some girls, myself included.
She's also dealing with this weird twisted shame of loving her brother but not knowing if it's okay, feeling almost dirty for loving him. My fellow readers just place yourself in these shoes, I would be crying.
My point is empathy should be used more when reading stories like these, this story isn't meant to be a deep and intellectual read, it's not meant to be a long story with development either. It's a short story of a girl who in the end came to terms with her feelings for her brother, and found someone who saw her pain and realized how she was a kind and caring person who also deserved to be loved, and who was there to love her? Why a demon that thought of himself as not lovable as well. It's really a truly beautiful story if you view it in that lens.
Now though my one gripe would be that the brother needs to really deal with his sexual feelings towards his sister, leave her to be happy with her new bae. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
