this seems pretty problematic, because they even "defined" bulimia IN the webtoon.... very incorrectly. When I saw the description I was really curious on how they would handle and incorporate the condition and was really hoping for good representation and recovery of the MC..... turns out it was NOT at all what i was expecting.

At the very end of chapter 5, the translator made a note saying how this version of bulimia was made up just for this story

From what I know about the hormones, I think his overeating could be attributed his body not absorbing leptin. Leptin sends signals to the body signifying you're full, suppressing hunger, however there is a small minority of people who don't produce it or don't absorb it properly. This makes the people feel constantly hungry and overeat, so if there is damage to certain parts of his brain he may never feel "full". But it's just a fictional story, and the author did explain that it was a disease made up purely for this story not bulimia+ the main character doesn't exhibit behavior indicative of purging, a defining characteristic of bulimia, so it's not that deep

I get that its made up, but i don't understand why you'd go to the extent to make up an illness and not just give it a made up name? If you're going to make something up, just make up the whole thing. It doesn't make sense not to.

it would make a difference since bulimia is a very severe eating disorder that shouldn't be misrepresented just because you can

the note said the korean was something like binge-eating deficiency and it sounds like it was supposed to be a made up disease. i'm not sure why it was translated as bolimia.

Idk if it helps but I saw somewhere there's actually a term called "Binge eating disorder" or sth if the person with bulimia doesn't purge (by any method vomiting, laxatives, fasting etc)
And translator logic about compensating vomit with over exercise is also plausible

I think translator has put it nicely here
So I don't think it was made up tho it is taken lightly.
