I think that's because she only knows him as an adult, even in the novel before he always was the cruel parent. So I think, she is afraid of him, because unlike Ain, she only knows the current him and not all of his hardships as a child.

and tbh again, i seriously dont get it when other's says she's too scared of the duke. i dont see how scared she is considering how her tone, her words, and her agressive actions towards the duke is, if this story has more sense of rationality, all those things she doing to the dukr will get her killed instantly, and that wouldn't be the thing a scared shitless person would be doing
