Why does the eagle eat the liver tho like why

I think it was because in Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire for the humans and gave them other gifts and the gods got angry so as punishment, Prometheus would be chained to a boulder. Every day, an eagle would eat his liver and he would have acid poured over his eyes. And at the end of the day, his body would regenerate so the cycle would continue on and on.
