It’s because of the strict traditional mindset of the Older generations especially the Chinese culture. And I don’t think huanwen’s grandfather know he’s gay. From his perspective, he doesn’t want him to be alone especially it will be hard for him when he gets older.
Yeah I get that,he should say that beforehand so his grandfather wouldn't be pushover. on the other side,huanwen can also have a family and get married even if he's a gay.

I imagine it never even crossed the grandpa's mind that he might be gay. Like his automatic thinking is that his grandson is straight and should get married. Not saying that he's even doing it on purpose because he might be accepting if he knew.
