Actually i think he did not kill his friend at all, you know he might have aim somewhere that won't kill him but just make him unconscious. And the part where they left , i think the hand glitched . And based on his personality he won't kill his friend because he is hoping that there could be a cure.

Harumi slouched over the steering wheel after shooting his friend is him mourning and feeling guilty. He didn't shoot to the head, that's for sure. The finger flinched. I bet Haruomi shot to kill but hope for the best and that they'll find a cure and can save him -if he's still alive. After being shot even zombies bleed.
I think this is highly close the truth of psychological reaction in traumatic event -which is still going on so brain doesn't stop to go through just one point.
