The guy shows that he didn't care for him much the first scene. He lies about visiting him just so the guy can fuck off and then doesn't give a shit about him til 5 years later. They're practical strangers. And he can just tell his dad he has a male roommate, not his BF. If his dad just wants to be in his son's business, he can ask his "roommate" to do what the main character's goal is, or, better yet, pick up the dads calls.

Like you could have a talk and be like "Sorry, we're not familiar with you so we don't want you living here", or say "I already have a roommate", but the solution they picked was to fuck in front of a stranger??
