Some predictions idk

Pretty sure the girl is naive, not trying to save face. She just wants to help but comes off as arrogant. ("THE ICE WATER IS TOO ICY TAKE IT AWAY WINK WINK" and she seems to think the maid needed the money desperately, and probably didn't realize she'd get punished or that the head maid would take the earrings.) Plus, she was announced as a foster, not a daughter, so I suspect she wasn't necessarily raised a noble and doesn't feel like one. (I predict that "A noble is a noble and a commoner is a commoner" probably applied to herself in that moment.)

I’m not so sure about her only being naive. Of course the MC grew up very privileged and with the understanding that the distance of social class needs to be upheld. She’s kind in a very shallow manner but I have to say, it actually fits the time period and her circumstances. She’s a young society Miss that is self absorbed and callous to a certain extent. Reputation is everything so of course she would keep quiet about the maid actually stealing the necklace. She’s not really interested in the maids circumstances as to why she would risk her life to steal a necklace, MC only thinks she’s kind enough to not throw her out on the streets or worse make everyone aware that the maid is a thief, which is punishable by death ( I assume this is Victorian England). So she feels she is kind but it has more to do with preserving her own reputation and to impress the ML. She doesn’t care either for her Maid being in obvious pain. And tbh, why should she? The maid made a spectacle out of herself that could have meant her death and the MC’s social disgrace. She gives the maid earrings after her conversation with her in front of witnesses. That was to impress the ML. Because if it was truly out of kindness she would have given the earrings to her maid during their private conversation about the theft. So it’s calculated. I don’t really fault the MC because of her upbringing and the timeline she’s living in. She only knows the social intricacies of her own social class and is ignorant of what commoners have to deal with. The ML disdains her with good reason. But he himself is a very suspicious individual who certainly has nothing good planned for the MC.
