Made a lot of grammatical mistakes and errors lol
I've read the raws so I'm going to correct you a widdle bit ><!
His mother was abusive, yes, but the father was saying things like she wasn't being a good enough mother, that's why the brother was somewhat not perfect enough in academics and so on which stressed the mom out and made her hate the brother more- the parents needed him to be good at a lot of things because he's a "boy" and males have the image of being a good successor and etc in Japan (it's still like that nowadays, but hopefully it's not that bad anymore. The males being superior compared to females is still there and it really sucks there.)
There's a scene to prove what I said about him being born as a boy and stuff- the part where he got good grades, told him mom about it but she lashed out on him- and his words were really sad too. He said "why are you angry? Why? Why is it fine with Kanami, but not me? I just wanted you to praise me. Why?" And mom replied, "because you're born a male" yuck.
I got lazy to read why he got bullied (since the raws were a little blurry and my knowledge in kanji isn't so good so I have to squint to read the hiragana,,) but after the parents passed, he started to think people were trash and his parents being like that (bullies too probably) made him think that it was hard to trust people. There was a scene where he got angry and said "YOU'RE THE TRASH" I didn't manage to read his thoughts before, but it probably was stuff like him blaming himself or how he has to handle everything they left him with (like the adults etc) he also had his break down moment before seeing Kanami and it was something like "I don't want to deal with anything anymore from this point- I'm scared"
Then, he saw Kanami and his thoughts were "you honestly wish for me to disappear as well, right?" "You're trash too, right?" And he hit her, I guess. Oh! And her words during his thoughts were "brother, let's do our best"
Zooming back to the present point, Kanami got hurt protecting her brother from the mountain of boxes and was brought to the hospital- there, he realized his mistakes and apologized. He said he's still scared of people, but he'll try his best to live as her brother again. And he apologized for hurting her all this time. He also said he knew deep down he shouldn't have kept living like that and confining himself in his room, but he couldn't bring himself out to do anything. Then, Kanami told him "you know you're my only family" and she said "let's do our best" again which I thought was sweet (๑•ㅂ•)و✧

Okay so basically when I was reading the raws I was able to see what happened to him in the past when he was younger and still in school.
*SPOILER*...
... His mother was abusive and I don’t think the dad was though, didn’t see him partake in the abuse but he didn’t stop his son from being abused(????) Anyways, on top of his mother abusing him he was also severely bullied in school and the bullies would also threaten to harass his little sister (sorry y’all I can’t remember names lol) if he didn’t comply with them. So he would get beat at school and at home by his mother most of the time (I think). He felt envious(?) of his little sister because she got all the love from their parents and basically didn’t have to go through the things that he had to go through. So he dropped out of school(?) and became a shut in who didn’t care himself, his sister, or other people in general. He’s so aggressive all the time due to the fact that he was bullied at school all the time, so it’s like a defense mechanism for him to try to protect himself from being the first to get hurt. This ‘self-defense mechanism’ that he has (from what I’ve observed and made assumptions about) has made him think that anything that anybody says or does to him, makes it feel as if they’re mocking him when all they’re trying to do is help. This is why anything that his little sister says or does to him makes him pop off and hit her even thought she means no harm (the ‘self-defense mechanism’ is all based on my opinion).
But this doesn’t mean that hitting an innocent little girl who knew nothing of your woes right and acceptable. He’s still trash but I get why he’s trash. And also, I don’t understand Japanese well to the point where what I had to rely on was the pictures and facial expressions to help me so I don’t know if this right or not lol.
