this is on wikipedia, but it has no sources. While I agree with you that this whole "kissing on the lips is common" is total bullshit, I see that apparently not only japanese people think this is a western thing to do (the person that wrote this agree with them, and maybe they're not japanese). I would love to see someone from South Africa answering my answer, for us to know if this is true there.
Who taught these Japanese people that kissing on the lips as a greetings is normal for foreigners????
