This is just a guess but maybe claude did it because she's a guest and he's not supposed to show his weaknesses even when it comes to food like sweets. In front of his daughter he can because he's less on guard with her and word won't spread.
it's probably like that, but i wanted to express my feelings of betrayal that Claude even showed something like favoritism even though it's probably not favoritism
